Phils Owner John Middleton Shares Secret For Success

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) - One of the silent owners of the NL East champion Phillies is breaking his silence and revealing what he believes to be the secret to the team's success: selflessness.

John Middleton is one of four so-called limited partners who co-own the Phillies.  Rarely does he speak publicly, but when he showed up at City Hall at an event to promote Project HOME, reporters naturally pestered Middleton for his thoughts about the four-time National League East champs.

He says they're as good human beings off the field as they are players on the field:

"It's why they are so successful: they really care about each other. There's no individual egos on that team. It's all about what they can do to help the team succeed. They don't care about their own personal success."

Middleton's fortune reportedly includes McIntosh Inns and a manufacturing company called Double Play, and he reportedly sold a cigar business three years ago for nearly $3-billion.
