Soon-To-Be Phillies Wall Of Famer Thome Honored Before Big Weekend

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) - The Phillies honored Jim Thome Thursday, one day before the all-star slugger will be enshrined on the team's Wall of Fame.

Some 200 lucky fans celebrated the achievement at a luncheon at Citizens Bank Park where Thome was guest of honor.

Thome played for the Phillies from 2003 into 2005, and returned for a year in 2012. He recalls it was the right decision to leave the Cleveland Indians and come to Philadelphia:

"We felt like this was our family for short period of time and for me personally, yeah, I just want to say thank you to everyone. How you treated not only me, but my family."

Thome smacked his 400th career homer as a Phillie, but he says he left shy of one of his goals:

"I just wish during my time we were able to win a World Series, but they were able to do that, you know, shortly after I left, which was still special for me to watch."

The Phillies won the World Series in 2008.
