Phillies Faithful Welcome 'Boys Of Summer' Home From Spring Training
PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- Phillies Opening Day is set for Friday.
But some Phillies faithful chose to brave the Spring chill to welcome back the Boys of Summer Monday evening at the ballpark.
Life-long Phillies fan Pat Irvin said, "People don't want to say it or admit it but we're the best fans in the world."
And their wait wasn't too terrible. After landing at Philadelphia International Airport shortly after 8 o'clock, the Fightins arrived at Citizens Bank Park minutes later.
For fans out to catch a glimpse of Ryan Howard, Cole Hamels, Roy Halladay and Cliff Lee, their wish was granted.
Phillies Pitcher Cliff Lee said, "We expect to win. We expect to win every game we play. We expect to win the division and hopefully win the World Series, that's the ultimate goal."
Lee is already in the zone.
"Noticed the big scoreboard out there, looks nice," Phillies Manager Charlie Manuel said.
Uncle Charlie first took notice of some new changes in store at the ballpark for you, the fans. The changes include, among other things: a new HD scoreboard, the Phanavision and the 800 additional televisions inside will also upgraded to HD, for hearing impaired fans, a closed captioning display will also be available.
The changes are welcomed but most fans told Eyewitness News, they just want their Fightins to make them proud. To which the Phillies Skipper replied, "Basically, if we score some runs in every game and catch the ball like we're supposed to then we'll be fine."
