Phillies Claw Back Into Playoff Picture

By Jim Melwert

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) - After being written off by most because of an awful first half of the season, the Phillies are just four games out of a playoff spot.

The Phils were 13 games under 500 at the All-Star break, pretty much sellers at the trade deadline.

But Garrett Tate from North Philly says, now that the big guns are back from injury, the team's coming together:

"I believe the Phillies are gonna get in, and I believe if they get in, I think they're dangerous. I think everybody's scared of them, I think everybody wants them out. Besides Phillies fans."

But, while the Phils are just four games out of the Wild Card, there are several teams in the mix. The Braves are almost a lock for one of the wildcard slots with a record of 81-62. Both the Dodgers and Pirates are ahead of the Phillies, who are four games behind the St. Louis Cardinals for the 2nd slot.

Fans, though, point out we have meaningful baseball in September, in a season that just a couple weeks ago, seemed to be over.
