Phillies 3B Polanco Out With Sore Back

PHILADELPHIA (AP) -- Phillies third baseman Placido Polanco is out of the starting lineup for Game 1 of the NL division series because of a sore back.

Wilson Valdez will play third and bat eighth against the Cincinnati Reds on Wednesday.
Manager Charlie Manuel says Polanco felt stiff during a workout on Tuesday. Polanco says he hurt bending over and moving left to right and told Manuel when he got to the park Wednesday that he could not play.

Polanco hit .298 this season with six homers and 52 RBIs.
