By Justin Udo
PHILADELPHIA (CBS) - A local veteran is using his music to help himself and others.
Verna Ingram did two tours in Iraq with the Army and when he left the military he struggled with depression.
To help battle his depression one of the things he turned to was music.
Ingram, who goes by the stage name Matthias, says his music isn't just to help him.
"The album is called The Forgotten but I want a lot of the other soldiers that are coming home to know they are not forgotten," he explains.
The North Philadelphia native says he uses his experiences to help people make it through their hard times
"I give a glimpse of my time in Iraq. I also give you a glimpse of inner city life," says Ingram.
