Police: Woman Who "Found" Abandoned Baby Is Infant's Mother

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- Police say a 19-year-old woman who reported finding a newborn baby behind a house in North Philadelphia is the infant's mother.

The Special Victims Unit says it started out as an abandoned baby report around 5:30 Sunday morning, when a young woman said she'd heard a baby's cries coming from the back of a house in the 2900 block of Bonsall Street. Officers discovered an infant girl, who was taken to St. Christopher's Hospital for Children, where she's in stable condition.

Detectives soon learned that the woman who contacted police was the baby's mother. She's being treated at Temple University Hospital, where she's also listed in stable condition.

No immediate charges were filed.

Police continue to investigate.
