Phila. Police Investigate Report of Officer Misconduct

Police are investigating reports that three officers drank beer and stole cash from a Northeast Philadelphia bar while it was closed.

KYW's Mike DeNardo reports that the Internal Affairs Unit is investigating whether three officers broke into Pat's Cafe in the Lower Northeast around 4:30 on Tuesday morning. The officers reportedly drank beer and took cash from a safe in the bar.

Pat's Cafe on Castor Avenue is the spot where officer Gary Skerski was shot and killed in May 2006, but police commissioner Charles Ramsey says the allegations are serious, no matter where it may have happened:

"Anytime an officer engages in an act of corruption, if they in fact engaged in an act of corruption, it doesn't matter where it happens. It's wrong. It's flat-out wrong. It should not happen, and there will be consequences if it in fact turns out to be true."

Ramsey says he's planning to review surveillance video from inside the bar. He says the three officers are on desk duty, during the investigation.
