PENNDEL BOROUGH, Pa. (CBS) -- Penndel Borough in Bucks County is debating whether or not to get rid of its police department. Eyewitness News was at the borough building on Tuesday night for a scheduled council meeting.

Some say it will be more cost effective to outsource police service to Middletown Township.

Officials estimate that cutting the police department would lead to more than $1 million over 10 years.

"The borough is kind of up against financial straits," said Penndel Council President Kali Sodano. "We don't have a lot of room left to increase taxes and we just recently had a pretty big tax increase on our residents, so we're already straining them."

The borough spends about $500,000 on the police force each year. That number is about 60 percent of Penndel's annual budget.
