Pa. House Vote Today On Wolf Tax Proposals

By Tony Romeo

HARRISBURG, Pa., (CBS) -- With Pennsylvania's in its 99th day without a budget, the state House today is set to vote on the latest tax proposal put forward by Governor Tom Wolf.

The tax plan outlined by Governor Wolf Tuesday would increase the state's personal income tax rate by half a percentage point, from 3.07 to 3.57 percent, and would impose a new tax on natural gas drillers. Republican Dave Reed, the House majority leader, said Tuesday afternoon he did not believe there were 102 votes for the governor's plan.

"I don't believe there are 84 Democrats, and I don't think there are a whole lot of Republicans lining up to vote for it, either. But as the governor said to me in one of the meetings a couple of weeks ago, we should not underestimate his power as governor to get the votes for what he wants," said Reed.

Reed says at some point, somebody has to be voted off the island, and if there are not enough votes to pass Wolf's revised proposal in the House, Reed says he hopes the governor will agree that that somebody is broad-based tax increases.
