One Pleads Guilty In Robbery-Murder Of Philadelphia Police Officer

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- There was a guilty plea today in the case of an off-duty Philadelphia police officer killed during a robbery.
The guilty plea was part of a cooperation agreement by one of two defendants in the case, 21-year-old Chancier McFarland, who pleaded guilty to third-degree murder in the death of Philadelphia police officer Moses Walker in August 2012 (see related stories).
McFarland has agreed to cooperate against alleged co-conspirator Rafael Jones, the alleged triggerman in the case.
Officer Walker was shot and killed during a robbery along Cecil B. Moore Avenue in North Philadelphia. He had just finished his overnight shift and was walking home.
The officer had been offered a ride by a coworker but turned it down, saying he was going to take public transportation. And during that walk to public transportation he was robbed, shot, and killed.
As part of his cooperation agreement, McFarland will be sentenced to 20-40 years in prison. He'll be spared a possible life sentence that could have resulted from a first- or second-degree murder conviction.
The co-defendant, Rafael Jones, is awaiting trial later this year.
