Police: Military-Style Practice Grenade Found In Newark Park

NEWARK, Del. (CBS) — A park in Newark was closed for hours after a grenade was discovered Saturday afternoon.
Authorities were called to Rittenhouse Park located at 228 West Chestnut Hill Road, just after 2 p.m.

Newark police say the device was found on top of the gravel and was not concealed in any way.
It was later determined to be a 40mm M169 practice grenade, meant for training, that would be used by the military, said police.
An explosive detecting K-9 from Wilmington Police responded and checked the major public areas of the park and did not locate anything suspicious.

Delaware State Police EOD disposed of the device.
There were no reported injuries.
