Off-Duty Firefighter Saves Heart Attack Victim's Life At Chester County Gym

DOWNINGTOWN, Pa. (CBS) --  A firefighter from the East Brandywine Fire Company didn't think he'd be doing anything besides working out at the local Planet Fitness Friday afternoon, but he was wrong.

Deputy Chief Joe Edwards is being hailed a hero after he ran to assist a fellow gym patron who had a sudden heart attack.

On the fire company's Facebook page, the post that tells the story of how Chief Edwards saved a life has been "liked" nearly 4,000 times while hundreds praised the firefighter for being in the right place at the right time and doing what he knows best- saving lives.

According to the post, Edwards immediately started CPR and used an Automated External Defibrillator to shock the patient's heart, who then regained a pulse and was transported to the hospital.
