Obama Makes Election Day Visit To Delaware County
YEADON, P.a. (CBS) - President Obama makes an Election Day visit to Delaware County.
The president will be visiting a classroom and making noontime remarks at the Yeadon Regional Head Start Center. At the center on Monday, crews were building risers in the small auditorium while workers spruced-up the grounds outside.
Thais Dupree, a parent from Darby, says Mr. Obama should highlight Head Start, a program for low-income children.
"They do a lot of good things there. They also have extra services if your child has any issues or problems like speech," Dupree said.
Even if it is not a campaign event, having the President in Yeadon should boost turnout, says David Landau, Delaware County Democratic Party Chairman.
"It's the President. It's Election Day. Therefore it's going to be on the news that the President is here on Election Day," Landau said. "And the more people are reminded that it's Election Day, particularly in these off-year elections, the better the turnout's going to be."
Vice President Biden is also scheduled to visit the county on Friday and Landau says The White House must be laying groundwork for the future.
"There's no question that we think of Delaware County as Ground Zero for the 2012 election. You have to win Delaware County to win Pennsylvania as a Democrat," Landau said.
The president is only expected to spend two hours in the Philadelphia area on Tuesday.
