NY Trucker Sentenced For New Jersey Crash That Killed 3

CAMDEN, N.J. (CBS) - The New York truck driver blamed for a 2008 crash that killed three people on Interstate 295 in southern New Jersey has been sentenced to seven years in state prison.

Forty-three-year-old Sheraz Khan of West Babylon must serve 85 percent of the term imposed Friday before becoming eligible for parole. He was convicted last December on several charges, including vehicular homicide and drug possession, in the Sept. 11, 2008, crash in Cherry Hill.

Police said Khan lost control of his northbound tractor-trailer and veered across the median into oncoming traffic, then collided with a Volkswagen and a refrigerated box truck. The driver of the auto and two people in the box truck were killed instantly.

Authorities say Khan had marijuana in his system and was likely asleep at the wheel.
