New Pa. Food Safety Law In Effect In Early 2011

HARRISBURG (CBS) -  Nicole Bucher, spokeswoman for the Pennsylvania Agriculture Department, says the primary provisions of the new law signed by Governor Rendell last month standardize and strengthen food safety inspections at restaurants and retail food facilities across the state.

Bucher says in 2003 the Agriculture Department adopted the FDA's food code for all of the inspections it conducts.  She says the new law, which takes effect in late January, will impose those FDA standards on local jurisdictions that do their own inspections:

"It requires local jurisdictions to report their inspection activities to the department monthly so they can be posted on our online inspection database."
