New Mayor Of Moorestown, New Jersey Makes History

MOORESTOWN, N.J. (CBS) - The next mayor of Moorestown, New Jersey is making history.

Every two years, the five-member council casts votes for mayor, and Councilwoman Stacey Jordan is to be the new leader in Moorestown.

"It's pretty exciting. I'm not sure why it didn't happen earlier."

A woman has never been named mayor in the township, until now.

"I'm just looking at it as a person who wants to do a job for the residents of the town."

The Burlington County town dates back to the 1680's, but was incorporated in 1922. Township Manager Scott Carew handles day to day administrative duties in Moorestown.

"She's intelligent and she's engaged. She loves the town and knows the town," said Carew.

Among her priorities this year?

"With the mall coming in with their new movie theater and restaurants, we have Virtua coming in with their new wellness center that will be complete this year. Those are things that help keep our tax rates steady, and it's one of the things that we focus on."
