New Jersey Man Charged With Attempted Murder After Woman Is Found With Knife Wounds
LAKEWOOD, N.J. (CBS) - An Ocean County man faces several charges including attempted murder after he allegedly slashed a woman's neck on New Year's Eve.
Police were called out to the Lakewood American Legion post in the 1200 block of River Avenue a little bit before midnight on Saturday following reports of a stabbing.
When they arrived, they found the victim with a slash wound on her neck. Lakewood police officers were able to arrest the suspect, 63-year-old Robert Hankins of Toms River, who stabbed himself in the neck prior to the officers' arrival, police said.
Both were transported to area hospitals for treatment. In addition to attempted murder, Hankins is charged with possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose and unlawful possession of a knife. His bail has been set at $250, 000.
