Mysterious Explosion In Northeast Philadelphia Turns Out To Be An Earthquake
PHILADELPHIA (CBS) - Neighbors on Calera Road in Northeast Philadelphia weren't sure what to think after hearing a loud boom Friday night.
"The whole house shook," said Tom McCraken.
Police, Fire and Gas company officials investigated the noise but it wasn't until almost 24 hours later that the U.S. Geological Survey confirmed the rumbling in the night was a 1.7 magnitude earthquake!
"I literally thought my ceiling fan fell out of the living room, my entire house shook," said Jarrett Lord.
The epicenter was at Knights and Fairdale Roads near Franklin Mills Mall. While there was no major damage to report in the Northeast, residents have one more thing to talk about.
"First a tornado two weeks ago makes you think about what that guy said about the rapture," said Lord.
