NORRISTOWN, Pa. (CBS) - Tuesday is Election Day and candidates running for local and countywide offices in the Philadelphia suburbs have been putting up signs encouraging people to go to the polls. But what happens to those signs after the election?

Campaign signs have been dotting the landscape for several weeks and Montgomery County is encouraging candidates to recycle those signs instead of dropping them in the trash.

"The metal and plastic can be reused to make other products," County spokeswoman Jessica Willingham said.

Willingham says signs will be accepted at several dropoff points between November 6th and November 20th:

"This program does not seek to take campaign sign cleanup responsibilities away from prospective candidates. Instead, the program is just hoping to connect candidates and homeowners with dropoff points."

There are ten of them across the county. Those sites are listed on the county's website.
