Middle Township Police Alerted To Alleged Phone Scam

MIDDLE TOWNSHIP, N.J., (CBS) – The Middle Township Police Department says they have been alerted to a new phone scam.

In a post on the department's Facebook page, police say a township resident was contacted on the phone and was told that a relative was involved in a crash, the other driver in the crash was a gang member, and the relative had been kidnapped.

Police say the alleged scammers requested an amount of cash be sent to them.

Police say if residents receive a call that is strange or suspicious, the best thing you can do is hang up on them.

Authorities say to contact the police department to make a report if you have fallen victim to a scam and sent money.
