PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- Mayor Michael Nutter celebrated his second inauguration with a ball at the new expanded Pennsylvania Convention Center, Monday night.
Before the ball, Mayor Nutter spoke at an informal reception to his family and friends at the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts.
The mayor was relaxed as he mingled with dozens of his closest friends and supporters. He said he is glad the formalities are over and he can be with family and friends again. (see related story)
"Ya know, it's easy to be popular when thing are going well. We all know that. Unfortunately, we got hit with a recession and a whole bunch of other stuff and the friends stayed friends, and that means just so, so very much to me."
Mayor Nutter's first inaugural ball had more than a couple thousand guests. Security at the second inaugural ball said only 800 were invited this time.
"I feel great, I feel fantastic, very excited just good to be out with a lot of good friends and supporters, and people that I've had a chance to work with, people who have had a tremendous impact on my life."
He mentioned mentors and former city leaders who guided him on his political journey. Then it was off to the Pennsylvania Convention Center Atrium, for dining and dancing.
Mayor Nutter added that he would like people to stop thinking of time in four and eight year increments, the length of one term in office. He says it's time to institutionalize change for the better of all citizens.
