Man Struck, Killed By NJT Riverline Train Near Trenton

TRENTON, N.J. (CBS) -- New Jersey Transit officials were investigating a fatal accident this morning near Trenton.

"At approximately 10:50am, a Riverline train traveling northbound from Camden to Trenton struck and fatally injured a male passenger on the tracks at the Cass Street station," explains NJT spokesman John Durso Jr.  "The man apparently stepped off the platform into the path of the train. The incident is currently under investigation."

As a result of the incident, Durso says, Riverline service was temporarily suspended between the Hamilton Avenue and the Bordentown stations.  Alternate bus service was being provided.

No injuries to those on the train were reported.  Riverline service was experiencing 15-minute delays and passengers were being encouraged to go to njtransit.com for service updates.
