Royersford Man Sentenced For Stealing From The Elderly

By Brad Segall

POTTSTOWN, Pa (CBS)  -- A former bank employee from Montgomery County is headed to the county jail for at least five months for stealing from several elderly bank customers who trusted him with their finances.

Jon Dugan pleaded guilty to multiple counts of theft by deception and was sentenced to five to 23 months behind bars.

The 30-year-old Royersford man admitted that while he worked for the Wells Fargo bank branch in Pottstown between June and August in 2011, he engaged in a scheme to confuse the elderly women and stole nearly $9,000.

Prosecutor Alec O'Neill says jail time was warranted because he violated their trust.

"Working in a position of responsibility and authority at the bank, he violated the trust the bank customers had in the bank and then in addition the trust that the bank and his co-workers had in him," O'Neill said.

Prosecutors said the women ranged in age from 77 to 92 and they're not sure what Dugan did with the money he withdrew from their accounts.

Although the women were not in court, Dugan apologized for his actions.

He was also given five years probation.
