Man Charged After Allegedly Striking Officer In Face In Camden County

BLACKWOOD, N.J. (CBS) – Police say a suspect assaulted an officer after being pulled over for a motor vehicle violation.

The incident occurred at 450 Erial Road in Blackwood, New Jersey on Thursday.

According to police, an officer stopped Haneef Anderson, of Camden, in the parking lot of Highland High School.

The officer attempted to place Anderson under arrest after learning that the suspect did not possess a drivers license and was suspended, but the suspect hit the officer in the face a ran away, says authorities.

Allegedly, as Anderson fled, he discarded an object which, police say, was found to be illegal drugs.

Officials say, Anderson continued to resist arrest after being caught by the officer that was assaulted and several more, who responded to assist the officer that had been attacked.

Once in custody, police say they found prescription drugs on Anderson as well.

Anderson has been charged with aggravated assault on a law enforcement officer, resisting arrest, possession of a controlled dangerous substance and related charges.
