Locals Say Winter Snow Was Worse Than Expected

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- It was a waiting game at Philadelphia International Airport Monday, where workers were de-icing planes and families were stuck in limbo trying to figure out how to get home. Dozens crowded around carousels and there were long lines at baggage claim counters. The caused cancellations and 90 minute delays.

"I pretty much spend the whole day at the airport," said Sunny Demarse, a traveler whose flights were cancelled.

Sunny flew in from Detroit, but his bags went to New York. He landed in Philadelphia to find his connection flight was cancelled.

"Very, very annoyed," he said. "I'd like to be at home watching Grammy's right now but I cant."

Carousels finally started moving bringing some relief, but not for Juanita Torres who left Denver at three o'clock this morning. She made it as far as the runway, when her connection to Hartford was cancelled.

"Two o'clock, three o'clock and then it was four," she said.

From Delaware to the Jersey Shore, plows and salt spreaders were out trying to get a jump on the wintery mix. That left roads slick. To make matters worse, shoppers at the Cherry Hill Mall came back to find their cars covered.

"It's a little worse than I thought it was going to be," said Diane Thomas. "I thought it was going to be a little rain, little snow."

But Thomas, who works at the container store, has just the vehicle for the job.

"I'm just going to take it slow going home," she said.
