Local Expert: Still Unclear If Blizzard Caused a Baby Boom

With a record snow fall in February, there was not much to do in the Delaware Valley and following times like that, our area could be susceptible to a baby boom.

KYW's Michelle Durham spoke to one local expert about that.  Dr. Owen Montgomery is professor of obstetrics and gynecology at Drexel School of Medicine and is in private practice.  He took a look at the available data.  What does he think?

"The number of babies that we at Drexel are expecting this year is almost identical to the number of babies we delivered in same period last year."

But Dr. Montgomery doesn't rule out the possibility of a baby boom all together.  He says it's just too soon to tell:

"If you were to ask at Thanksgiving whether the total number of babies has increased over last year, I would be able to give you an accurate answer as to whether or not we saw that blizzard baby boom."

A call to several area hospitals netted the same results.  We'll just have to wait and see!
