Late Frank Rizzo's Cadillac Hits The Auction Block

A Cadillac with a famous Philadelphia connection is going up for auction this weekend in Wildwood.

There's no word on whether his nightstick is still under the front seat, but KYW's Mike DeNardo reports that the black 1980 Cadillac that belonged to former Philadelphia mayor Frank Rizzo will be available to the highest bidder on Saturday in Wildwood, NJ.

Auction promoter Gary McGhee said the car has 16,000 miles on it, and the Rizzo family has kept it in great shape since the former mayor's death in 1991:

"They've taken it out and have used it on different occasions for short trips and what-have-you.  But they've kept it in storage, and from what I've been told the car is in immaculate condition."

So how much will Frank Rizzo's car fetch?

"I really don't know.  If there's a couple of people that want that car and get into a bidding frenzy, the car could bring sixty, seventy, $80,000."

The car goes on display Thursday at 6pm at the Wildwoods Convention Center.  The auction is Saturday at 3pm.

Proceeds will go to maintain the Rizzo statue outside the Municipal Services Building (in photo).
