KYW Flashback: Main Line Socialite Kidnapped By Employee Of Husband's Supermarket Chain
PHILADELPHIA (CBS) --- If you went grocery shopping here in 1974, you likely went to Food Fair.
It was the 800 pound gorilla of supermarkets. So, when an 18-year-old employee decided he wanted to get rich quick, what better way than kidnap the boss's wife?
That would be socialite Annette Friedland, a Main Line beauty whose opulent home backed up to the Philadelphia Country Club. The whole kidnapping took place and was over in a flash. The gardener was tied up. Mrs. Friedland was snatched and driven to South Philly. Her husband Jack was called with a $60,000 ransom demand. Cops kept their distance.
Within 15 minutes of the drop-off, she was free and teen's vision of the good life had a view of steel bars.
