Kimmel Center To Host Discussions About Bi-Polar Disorder In Relation To 'Next To Normal' Performance

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) – When the Tony award winning musical - Next to Normal - comes to the Kimmel Center this week, it will come with community discussions about its controversial topic.

Next to Normal will be at the Kimmel Center for the Performing Arts from Tuesday, June 21st through Sunday June 26th. At the Wednesday performance, there will be pre and post show discussions with audience members about the show's focus, bi-polar disorder.

Thor Steingraber is Senior Vice President at the Kimmel. He says the discussions will involve local medical experts specializing in bi-polar disorder to help people better understand.

"What the play itself brings to light about bi-polar disorder, and basically doing an awareness piece and a real engagement piece both around the play itself and the subject."

Steingraber says it's hoped the discussions will highlight the social impact of theater on everyday life. For more information, go to
