Kickoff Held For 24th Annual Aids Walk
The 24th annual aids walk in Philadelphia will concentrate on the dire statistics surrounding the epidemic. The walk kickoff was Friday morning in Rittenhouse square.
KYW's community affairs reporter Karin Phillips reports every nine and a half minutes someone in the United States becomes infected with HIV and every 15 minutes in America, someone dies.
These are the statistics that AIDS walk organizers want to emphasize during the October 17th Walk.
"We continue to have new infections in our community; young people are at risk, older people are increasingly at risk so we really need to keep up the fight against HIV and AIDS in our community," said Rob Reichard is executive director of the AIDS fund.
