In Memoriam: Ron Rolfe
For a PGA Professional to serve 35 years at one club, it takes two key things: a good membership and a consummate professional. And that was the case with longtime North Hills CC Head Professional Ron Rolfe, who died suddenly over the weekend at age 67. Funeral arrangements are pending.
Among the many North Hills members who enjoyed Rolfe's skill at his job and his genuine, friendly demeanor is KYW Newsradio's Harry Donahue. Harry has a ton of stories he can tell about Ron, and provides just a sampler of his many fond memories in this podcast.
Update: We had several responses from listeners who knew Ron. Here is one that certainly puts golf in perspective and sheds more light on the man...
I was deeply saddened to hear of Ron's death when I tuned in this morning.
While Ron will be remembered for his long career and specifically, his approach to the game, I'll forever remember Ron for his kindness. He had a kind heart that always reached out and protected the vulnerable. He nursed baby sparrows, adopted stray dogs, devoted extra time to troubled children and cared deeply about aging members of the club at North Hills.
I never thought golf was very important. I do believe the character of people who play golf is very important. In that arena, there was no equal to Ron.. he touched so many along the way. I am honored to have known Ron.
