Homeland Security in Phila. With 2 New Programs

by KYW's Mark Abrams

Federal officials were at 30th Street Station today to announce two programs aimed at boosting security on the northeast rail corridor.

Homeland Security secretary Janet Napolitano (at lectern) stood in front of the Amtrak information board to ask the public's help under a program called, "If You See Something, Say Something."

"If you are on a train or standing on a platform, or in a station or public space and you see something that doesn't look right or seems out of place, like an unattended package or bag or an individual acting in a suspicious manner, report it to law enforcement."

She says that by reporting suspicious activity the public can help authorities prevent crimes and terrorist acts, and identify perpetrators after the fact.

Napolitano also announced the rollout of an upgraded suspicious activity reporting system linking Amtrak and state and local police agencies working with it to federal security agencies who can identify tactics and threat trends.
