Hazmat Crews Respond To Wanamaker Building In Center City

By Mark Abrams, Gabriella Sacidor

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) – Crews were called to a possible hazmat situation in Center City on Tuesday.

A Philadelphia Fire Department Hazardous Materials Unit responded around noon to the Wanamaker Building located at 13th & Market Streets.

Authorities say the fire department received reports of a package in the mailroom that was giving off an odor making an employee sick.

Fire crews tested the atmosphere and checked out any packages that were identified as making employees feel ill.

The fire department found no evidence of any suspicious packages. There were no injuries reported.

Authorities on scene say the package in question was over-packed and is now being recommended to a clean-up company.

The building was not evacuated.
