Harrisburg Man Gets Prison Time For Pipe Bomb Manufacture

BELLEFONTE, Pa. (AP) — A Pennsylvania man who pleaded guilty to making a bomb that authorities said was intended for his wife's paramour has been sentenced to 11½ to 23½ months in prison.

Fifty-three-year-old Frederick Rice of Harrisburg was sentenced Monday in Centre County.

Rice pleaded guilty in December to manufacture of a weapon of mass destruction and five counts of recklessly endangering another person.

Prosecutors alleged that Rice told them after his arrest in August that he made the bomb because he was angry about an affair his wife was having.

They said he told them he planned to attach the device to the vehicle of his wife's paramour and detonate it by remote control when the victim was inside.

Defense attorneys said Rice was depressed and suicidal when he made the device.
