Gov. Signs Bills to Honor NJ Servicemen and Veterans
Governor Christie has signed bills in a Haddon Heights park to honor New Jersey active duty service men and women and retired military veterans.
KYW's Steve Tawa reports Governor Christie says the bills are a small token of gratitude and appreciation:
"I cannot thank you enough for your service to the state and to our country."
One bill creates a New Jersey honor guard ribbon for members of the National Guard and civilian buglers who have served in at least 30-services for deceased veterans.
Burlington County Assemblyman Jack Conners:
"This honors the men and women who go to the Doyle Cemetary and honor the fallen soldiers who are buried there."
Command Sergeant Major Scott Lewis describes the ribbons:
"The ribbon itself is on a blue background with white stars. it looks similar to a flag, if it was folded."
Another will enable New Jersey vets who went to conflicts in Korea or Vietnam before they finished high school to get their diplomas. The program has been available to World War I and II vets.
