BORDENTOWN, N.J. (AP) — Gov. Chris Christie is defending remarks he made earlier this week saying that he's tired of hearing about the minimum wage.
Speaking during a campaign stop for a local congressional candidate, the Republican governor repeated his argument that most parents don't sit around the kitchen table saying their lives would be better if only their children could make a higher minimum wage.
Christie went on to accuse Democrats and President Barack Obama of focusing on the issue because the country's economy hasn't been growing fast enough.
He also called the president a "class warrior" and said his focus should be expanding opportunity and creating better-paying jobs for everybody.
Christie's comments during a Tuesday speech in Washington, D.C., were criticized by Democratic groups and online.
