New Jersey is one of nearly two dozen states set to increase its minimum wage in 2026, and the only state in the Delaware Valley that will see a hike.
The federal minimum has held at $7.25 an hour since 2009, but an increasing number of states are upping their base pay for workers.
Workers in four battleground states earn the federal minimum wage of $7.25 an hour. Labor advocates say that's a recipe for poverty.
In his budget address Tuesday, Pennsylvania Gov. Josh Shapiro renewed a promise that was a large part of his campaign: raising the minimum wage to $15 an hour.
Gov. Shapiro said more-than-doubling the current minimum wage of $7.25 an hour is the smartest decision for Pennsylvania's economy.
Higher minimum wages will kick in on Jan. 1 in 22 states, lifting pay for about 9.9 million Americans, according to one estimate.
Pennsylvania lawmakers haven't been able to bridge the partisan divide over increasing the minimum wage, but Delaware and New Jersey are raising their rates on Jan. 1.
Pennsylvania is still stuck at a minimum wage that hasn't gone up since 2009.
The coffee chain said it is increasing eligible employees' pay, with longer-tenured workers in line for bigger raises.
The Garden State's minimum wage will jump to $15.13 per hour for most workers.

Governor Tom Wolf's administration is joining forces with a pizza chain owner in the call for raising Pennsylvania's minimum wage.
