Gordon Gekko Back On Top

As Gordon Gekko reminds us, money never sleeps.  And neither, apparently, did the sequel to Wall Street.

KYW's Bill Wine reports that director Oliver Stone's Wall Street: Money Never Sleeps, released 23 years after the original, with Michael Douglas (above left) back in the Gekko role that won him an Oscar, finished first at the box office this weekend, earning an estimated $19 million in its debut.

In second place was the animated adventure, Legend of the Guardians: The Owls of Ga'Hoole.  Its  opening-weekend total was over $16 million.

Just behind it, in third place, was last weekend's leader, The Town, with $16 million.

The weekend's other new mainstream release -- the comedy, You Again, with Kristen Bell and Jamie Lee Curtis -- took in $8 million, good for fifth place.

Overall, it was a respectable weekend, with industrywide totals ahead of last week's pace and higher than those on the counterpart weekend last year.
