GLOUCESTER TOWNSHIP, N.J. (CBS) -- A 15-year-old girl heading to school was struck while about to board a school bus, police said.

Around 6:30 a.m. the girl was crossing Hickstown Road at Heatherwood Drive where a school bus was stopped with its flashers on. While in the street, a pickup truck did not follow the bus's warnings and turned into the intersection. The truck then struck her and pushed her, according to police.

The girl was alert and breathing after the incident and may have undergone surgery. A police news release said she was "seriously injured" and taken to Cooper University Hospital.

The teen is a student at Camden County Technical School, according to police.

Traffic and the school bus were briefly stopped in the area while police investigated the incident. Hickstown Road has since reopened after the crash scene cleared.

The truck driver remained at the scene.
