Murdered Central High Graduate Remembered
Friends and family of a Central High graduate who was shot and killed in June, came together Friday night, not to mourn her death, but to celebrate her life.
KYW's Jim Melwert reports there were speeches, performances, and poetry readings in the Central High auditorium, all with pictures of Shakuwrah Muhammed in the background.
The 18-year-old was caught in the crossfire earlier this summer. Central High president, Dr. Shelly Pavel:
"She was a member of this year's graduating class and she was taken from us right after commencement. Many of the people student, staff, parents, didn't have a full opportunity to say goodbye."
The class president of 2010, Alexis Jenkins, says the celebration called "Viva la Kuwrah" shows everyone just how important each life is:
"We want everyone to know this is not okay. And with a program like this it just shows them that this is not okay and we're going to come together and we're going to try to stop this."
Muhammad was killed June 20th in West Oak Lane while walking with a friend to a bus stop. Police believe a man nearby was the intended target.
