Flyers Keep Spirits Of Philly Sports Fans High

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) - Villanova gave the city of Philadelphia a very memorable week. Now it's time for the Flyers' faithful to celebrate.

The Orange and Black clinched a playoff spot Saturday afternoon with a win over the Pittsburgh Penguins, much to the delight of fans:

"I am feeling amazing!"

"I can't believe it. I'm shocked. And I'm so excited!"

"(Wayne) Simmonds is taking us all the way, we're pumped!"

While the start of the playoffs is still days away, fans tell KYW Newsradio Saturday's game sure didn't feel  like the regular season:

"It got pretty electric there, so it was good."

"Incredible. The energy was amazing the entire time."

"The atmosphere in there was unbelievable."

Add to that the fact the Flyers defeated their arch rivals to earn their playoff spot, it was icing on the cake for fans like Sean Mcmenamin:

"You can't clinch against any other team but the Penguins! They always get pumped up to play these guys. Especially at home and you heard the fans, everybody was behind them."

Jake Scadden enjoyed the atmosphere as well:

"It was intense, everyone was chanting 'Lets Go Flyers,' it never really let up."

He traveled a long way to experience this game in person:

"I came all the way from Utah. It was a long trip, it was worth every  single second."

And given the current state of the other Philly pro sports teams, many fans like Joe Gatta agree, the city needs this:

"The atmosphere was like nothing I've seen in my life. We are starving for a real, pro parade and it's gonna come. The momentum is swinging and the Flyers are doing what they gotta do."

Next up for the Flyers, a playoff series with top-seeded Washington, but that doesn't scare all fans:

"We played them well this year, I'm pretty confident."

"Bring on the Capitals baby, we're going to beat the Capitals!"
