CAMDEN, NJ (CBS) – Firefighters battled a six-alarm fire in Camden that broke out late Monday night.
The fire broke out at the Magnetic Metals Corp factory at Hayes Avenue and N 21st Street in Camden just before 11 p.m. on Monday night. Firefighters brought it under control at about 3 a.m. Tuesday.
Evacuations were reported in the area of 21st and River Avenue, and residents in Camden were advised to shut their windows to keep dangerous fumes out while the fire was burning.
As fire crews left the scene city, county and state fire marshals came to begin their investigation.
"It doesn't appear as though it did any damage to the building that we do occupy," said Frank Raneiro, president of Magnetic Metals.
Raneiro says the building that caught fire was abandoned and ready for demolition.
Evacuated citizens have returned to their homes.
No injuries have been reported.
The cause of the fire remains unknown.
