Fall Season Celebrated At Reading Terminal Market
By Hadas Kuznits
PHILADELPHIA (CBS) - Filbert Street was blocked off for fall-themed activities at Reading Terminal Market's annual Harvest Festival Saturday.
Organizer Jimmy Iovine created the event 14 years ago:
"You know, it's gotten bigger over the years and the free hayrides the kids love, the pumpkins, taking pictures -- and with the addition of the cell phone, we just gotta set up a nice display and they take pictures galore!"
8-year-old Megan was one of thousands participating in the fun this weekend and describes the scene:
"Crowded, and it looks like a farm!"
Michelle Melon was also there.
"This year it's a lot more food stands and the pumpkins," she says. "I'm a kid at heart and when you have kids, you have to be a kid at heart."
Iovine says this has a wonderful impact on the market:
"I bet it brings in an extra 5,000 people."
What was new this year?
"We have the new beer garden because everybody has a beer garden now in Philly," Iovine says. "One thing I noticed, a younger crowd. This is -- it's not kids -- and that's not stopping them from going on the hayride, either."
And Iovine jokes hayrides usually feel good after a few beers.
