Enthusiast Looks Back On South Philly's 'Stooge' Connection
By John Ostapkovich
AMBLER, Pa. (CBS) - Moms, you may want to make sure the kids don't read this next story: a new Three Stooges movie opens today.
For every eye-poke and slap, for every time a mother cringed at the thought one of her boys would get the idea it was okay to hit another with a shovel, somehow the Stooges survived the decades.
Gary Lassin, curator of the Stoogeum in Ambler, has a theory why, "Because they made short-subjects, in the late 1950's NS Wely 60's they were easily packaged for television."
Lassin is in the extended family of Stooge Larry Fine, born as Louis Feinberg in South Philly 110 years ago.
The originals are one thing. The movie, another, "Stooge fans seem to be pretty evenly divided on this one. About half of them are dead-set against it and almost think it's blasphemy. The other 50-percent are very, very excited about it."
Lassin has only seen trailers and clips but says if anyone can pull this off, it's the Farrelly brothers.
