DRPA Moving Forward with New Rules to Curb Perk Abuse

The Delaware River Port Authority is moving ahead with a series of reform measures in the wake of allegations of perk abuse and mismanagement. Two board members are split on their effectiveness.

KYW's David Madden reports that board chairman John Estey has sent draft resolutions for changes on 16 fronts to both Pennsylvania governor Ed Rendell and New Jersey counterpart Chris Christie. Once their review is complete, look for a board vote, perhaps as soon as the middle of the month (see related story).

Vice-chair Jeffrey Nash thinks the changes will go a long way to make things better:

"The rules that the Board of Commissioners are governed by have been in existence since the 1920's. They have become obsolete and are archaic."

Board member John Dougherty, whose questions have brought many of the agency's current problems to light, is not satisfied:

"There's still too many questions that haven't been answered and when we get to these answers, it'll probably lead to more resignations."

Car allowances for top managers and free E-Z Passes for workers have now been eliminated.
