Driver Indicted In Fatal Atlantic City Hit And Run

MAYS LANDING, N.J. (AP) — A driver who allegedly struck and killed a man in a motorized wheelchair in Atlantic City last summer has been indicted on a charge of leaving the scene of a fatal accident.

The indictment against 42-year-old Leo Strazzeri of Galloway Township was handed up late Tuesday afternoon by an Atlantic County grand jury. He also faces several motor vehicle citations stemming from the July 9 accident.

Prosecutors say Strazzeri drove off after hitting 45-year-old Daniel Tavarez, who was on his way to buy milk when he was hit while in the crosswalk at Route 30 and Pennsylvania Avenue.

Tavarez was pronounced dead at the scene a short time later.

Police found the vehicle Strazzeri was driving unoccupied in Atlantic City.

If convicted, Strazzeri faces up to 10 years in prison.
