Deliberations Resume Thursday In Center City Gay Couple Attack Trial

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) --  At the gay bashing trial of a Southampton, Bucks County woman, jurors deliberated for about five hours Wednesday, and will return in the morning to talk it over.

The defendant is charged with taking part in a 2014 attack on a gay couple in Center City.

While deliberating, jurors asked the judge and received permission to re-look at fragmented cell phone video from witnesses who happened on the scene of the confrontation, as well as still photos edited from those images.

They show the chaos at 16th and Chancellor Streets, but not the actual attack on two men.

Jurors also requested and received four statements from witnesses to re-read.

They included two bystanders who linked 25-year old Kathryn Knott to the attack, and another who was with Knott's group of 15-men and women who came upon the gay couple.

When Knott took the stand in her own defense, she told jurors that she never shouted anti-gay slurs or hit anyone.

Prosecutors say it was a "hate crime," and prior anti-gay tweets posted by Knott go to her motivation that night.

She claims they were taken out of context, and her defense lawyer contends she's "wrongly accused."

Two of Knott's male friends previously pleaded guilty to assault charges and received probation.

Knott chose to go to trial to fight two counts each of aggravated and simple assault, as well as conspiracy and recklessly endangering another person charges.
