Croydon, Pa. fire started in van before flames spread to home, arson investigation underway: officials

A police officer spotted a burning vehicle that caused a home in Bucks County to go up in flames, and now an arson investigation is underway, authorities said Friday.

Several fire trucks were called out to a house fire in the Croydon section of Bristol Township, Pennsylvania.

Chopper 3 was over the home on the 700 block of Cedar Avenue, where several firefighters were seen accessing an upper-story window.

Fire Marshal Kevin Dippolito said someone intentionally set fire to a van, and then flames spread from the vehicle to a corner of the house. The home was then evacuated.

The blaze was brought under control Friday morning.

"When you're in that situation, it's just, you know, life or death, be safe, be smart," said Paul Wallace Jr., who evacuated the burning home. "My father built this house, he's lived there almost his whole life, pretty much. I lived there almost all of mine. We lost everything, you know, 30 years of memories right there, we lost it all."

No one in the home was injured; however, Wallace Jr. said they did lose a cat. One firefighter was transported for treatment and another was treated on the scene, both for minor injuries.

The fire broke out around 5 a.m.

"It just lit up the house," Wallace Jr. said. "We lost pretty much everything. They're saying we have to tear the house down now."
