Community Revitalization Projects Aim To Transform Houses, Women's Lives
PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- It's called "She Build." It's a nationwide effort to create change for women through community revitalization projects.
It's an effort for women by women. And on Saturday, a group of women voltmeters were making critical health and safety repairs to 77-year-old Helen Smith's house on the 2200 block of Fairhill street in North Philadelphia.
"What is really cool about "She Build" is we are trying to get the people on the build to have better skills, so they can work on their house and become more reliant on themselves rather than others," said Jane of Fishtown, the house captain. "And everyone is learning different skills. We are doing a ton of flooring, which is a really great life skill and it's so satisfying."
She Build was created by Rebuilding Together, a national network focused on preserving affordable homes and revitalizing neighborhoods using volunteer resources.
